Hitler wasn 't the first to commit ethnic cleansing on the Jews. Anti-semitism is deeply rooted into Western societies. Take the example of Spain and the Spanish Inquisition. As soon as the so-called Catholic Kings had reconquered Granada, the last Muslim stronghold in Spain (end 15th century), they created a State-controlled Inquisition. Especially the 'conversos', the Jews converted to christianity, were their target. Inquisitors looked scrutinously at remainders of alledged Judaic identification within the group of the conversos. In the worst case, they were burned at the stake in the so-called 'auto-dafé'.
Anti-semitism grew so bad that in the end all Jews fled Spain, which meant a heavy loss of human and cultural capital for Spain.
The Inquisition is the black shadow of Roman-Catholicism.
Don 't forget that it took centuries and centuries for us, Western people, to eradicate religious intolerance. Freedom of religion, in any form, is now rooted into our constitutions. Let 's honour this freedom and never let happen again any religious or other forms of discrimination.
